MarMar Cardigans

MarMar cardigans for children with a light fit and simple look

MarMar cardigans are a lovely choice if you are looking for a cardigan with a calm, understated expression. MarMar Copenhagen is known for its Nordic style, lightweight knits and refined cuts that make each cardigan fall softly and naturally. The look is more elegant than classic children’s knitwear, but still easy to use in everyday life with kids. Here you will find MarMar cardigans for babies and children, often in the smaller sizes from around 0–6 years, where fit, material and length quickly affect how the cardigan sits and how it is worn throughout the day.

The most important things to consider are usually:

  • whether you prefer cotton or merino wool
  • whether the cardigan should be short or long
  • whether there should be room for layers underneath

MarMar often has a slim fit and a little extra length in the body compared with more traditional cardigans for children. This gives a light and delicate look, but if the cardigan is meant to be worn over several layers, some parents may find it more comfortable to size up.

What makes MarMar cardigans special?

The special thing about MarMar cardigans is in the details. They are not just knitted pieces, but thoughtfully designed to create a lighter and softer expression. Where many children’s cardigans have a more classic, straight cut, MarMar often works with slim sleeves, ribbed edges, soft draping and sometimes asymmetric button closures. This makes them easy to wear over dresses, blouses and bodysuits without the cardigan feeling heavy or bulky.

The colours are usually calm and muted, such as sand, grey, navy, powder tones and other understated shades. This makes it easy to add the cardigan to your child’s wardrobe, so it can be worn again and again with the pieces you already have. The soft colour palette also works beautifully with the brand’s own MarMar dresses and trousers if you want to put together an outfit that works for everyday wear, visits and slightly smarter occasions.

MarMar cardigans in cotton or merino wool?

The material makes a big difference to when the cardigan feels right to wear. MarMar often chooses natural materials such as organic cotton and superfine merino wool, and each suits slightly different needs in a child’s everyday wardrobe.

A cardigan in organic cotton is often a good choice for spring, mild days and indoor wear. It is light to wear and easy to pull over a blouse or dress when your child needs an extra layer. For many families, cotton is also the simple choice in a busy everyday routine because it is straightforward and fits easily into the wardrobe.

A MarMar merino cardigan is especially useful when the weather turns cooler, or when your child needs a layer that helps maintain a comfortable temperature. Merino wool is known for its temperature-regulating qualities, and the superfine, mulesing-free quality usually feels much gentler against the skin than the wool many people associate with itchiness. If the cardigan is to be worn in autumn and winter or over thin tops, merino is often a really good choice.

How to choose length and size

The length actually makes a bigger difference than you might think. Short MarMar cardigans are especially lovely over dresses, as they finish lightly and allow the shape underneath to show. For the youngest children, the shorter style can also feel practical because it is light and allows good freedom of movement when crawling, being lifted and playing.

Long cardigans often work well with trousers or leggings and provide a little more coverage around the back and hips. This can be nice for children who move around a lot, or if you want to create a more complete layered look with MarMar trousers.

When choosing a size, it is good to keep in mind that MarMar often has a slim fit. If your child is between two sizes, or if the cardigan will be worn over a bodysuit, blouse or dress, it can be worth choosing the larger size. If you prefer a closer, simpler fit, the usual size will often work very well.

Layering, care and choosing with confidence

MarMar cardigans are easy to use as part of everyday layering. Over a dress, they give a light and finished look, and over a bodysuit or blouse they add warmth without feeling heavy for your child. If you would like to see more similar styles, you can also explore our selection of cardigans.

When it comes to care, the difference is fortunately quite simple. Cotton is usually the easiest option for everyday washing, while merino wool needs a little more care and is best washed on a wool programme with a gentle wool detergent. In return, you get a material that many choose for its soft drape, comfortable temperature regulation and fine, lightweight knitted look.

It is exactly the combination of light knit, natural colours and simple cuts that many people love about MarMar. These are cardigans that are easy to start using and easy to combine with the rest of your child’s wardrobe, without feeling too dressed up or too much.
