A long tradition of quality and style

Few clothing brands can look back on a heritage as long as Levi’s. As early as 1872, German immigrant Levi Strauss sold denim overalls to industrial workers and gold miners in and around San Francisco. The first denim trousers followed a year later. In 1912, the company had just recovered from the city’s devastating earthquake at the turn of the century when Levi’s launched its first children’s clothing. While the children’s collections today are broad and colourful, with a wide selection for everyone from babies to teenagers, the range was much smaller in 1912. In fact, for a long time there was just one model: Koverall, a denim all-in-one with an unusual name. This blue garment with red appliqué details was to become a universal piece of children’s clothing at the time. Back then, functionality came before design.

Levi’s marketed the Koverall to American parents using practical arguments such as durability, easy care, affordable pricing and effective protection against scratches and other injuries. Much of this still rings true more than 100 years later. However, Levi’s has developed the designs so that they are now modern and versatile—essential additions to any child’s wardrobe.

The founder of the American company is credited with inventing jeans, creating one of the world’s most durable and recognisable garments. The denim trousers experienced a worldwide boom, particularly after the early post-war years. Today, jeans are much more than workwear.
